"First we must ask ourselves - Do we care"
"Our care for creatures is where the right for our own survival should be judged: These two stories about Koko the Gorilla and
Shirley the Elephant will bring you to tears. Amazing and so deeply sad as well".
October 2011
JUST LIKE SHIRLEY, WE MUST BY NOW HAVE LEARNED THAT WE TOO ARE CHAINED BY A CONSORTIUM
OF ENTITIES AND SYSTEMS PRODUCED AND ENFORCED BY GREEDY WEALTH SEEKERS AND POWER
BROKERS, WHO DEVISE CAGES THEY CALL COUNTRIES AND FEEDING TROUGHS THEY CALL BANKS.
BUT BY FORCES GREATER THAN THEY A NEW CYCLE OF TRANSITION HEADING TOWARDS A CLEAN
PAGE HAS ARRIVED. HOW THE NEW PAGE IS FORMED DEPENDS UPON LEARNING FROM THE PAST AND
ITS ENTIRELY OUR DECISION WHAT IT CONSISTS OF.

In 2000, “The Urban
Elephant” brought viewers the
touching story of Shirley and
Jenny, two crippled elephants
reunited at The Elephant
Sanctuary in Tennessee after
a 22-year separation. The
bonding was immediate,
intense and unforgettable
between the two former circus
elephants.
She knows more than 2,000
words, has friends in high
places and loves cats and old
films. But in her 40th year,
Koko the ‘talking’ gorilla seeks
a new challenge — a baby.

Koko reads sign language and is seen here saying "I need your help".

Correspondance between Chad Deetken and I after he sent the video below:

This film touches me deeply Chad.  All this to lose in less than 20 years - its insane and we will cry into
infinity to have allowed the business and government assholes around us to beat the hell out of our
environment as they have.  Yes nature is doing a cyclical job on us also but unless we can feel good
about the way we conduct ourselves, we will live a hell beyond words. Time is short and politicians with
spiritual integrity are rare but are urgently called for to take up the sword for a battle worth fighting for
through PEACE and LOVE. New times, new hope but when and how will this manifest in a coherent
action to help save what we have left? Ever the optimist but feeling now a level of despair Ive not felt
before. I will say that in meeting US Congressman Dennis Kucinich two weeks ago in Massachusetts
during the Peace Conference, there IS some hope. He is a good man and the only politician Ive met
yet who is actively attempting to create a Department of Peace – (photo below)
Colin, you are absolutely right and I feel the same way. Our leaders fiddle while Rome burns and there
comes a point when the fire can't be put out anymore. What breaks my heart is the animals since they
are the most innocent of victims. I have often said to Gwen that I feel our own generation has betrayed
it's youthful ideals and bought into the pork-barreling lifestyle and unabashed consumerism. I can't
say I am totally innocent as one gets drawn into the flow of the main stream but I have done my best to
resist it. We give money to a dozen environmental charities including Greenpeace, David Suzuki Fund,
WWF, Sea Shepherd among others and stay as politically and environmentally active as possible but I
just can't shake the feeling that we're slipping backwards. Hopefully the next generations have more
sensible leadership than ours.

Blessings,

Chad
