SUPERSTORM SANDY - OCTOBER 29, 2012
Full moon with high cloud halo and the branches of our willow tree swaying ominously ahead of Sandy. Copyright Colin Andrews
It wasn't very long before we lost power (5.0 pm) and that was the way it remained for four days. Over 7 million others were in the same situation.
The morning after the severe winds dropped a little, we looked around to luckily see just two trees and lots of branches down on our farm; however, most of the roads were blocked. Trees and electric wires were down all over the place..

SERIOUS FLOODING - EMERGENCY VEHICLES DARTING FROM ONE 911 CALL TO ANOTHER - SOME UNABLE TO REACH THE EMERGENCIES THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF THE FLOODS, WIRES OR TREES.
COASTLINE PROPERTIES WERE FLOODED AND LEFT COVERED WITH SAND. SOME PROPERTIES WERE DESTROYED AND WASHED OUT TO SEA
THE RECORD BREAKING SURGE ALONG THE COAST AND ESTUARIES CAUSED STREETS AND PROPERTIES TO FLOOD CREATING TRAFFIC CHAOS.
IN SOME PLACES LIVE CABLES & TREES HAD TO BE CLEARED TO ALLOW EMERGENCY RESPONDERS TO PASS, IN OTHERS IT WAS BOATS WASHED INLAND

COMMENTS: AFTERMATH & APPEAL

Posted: Novemeber 4, 2012. Synthia and I just returned from donating food, cloths and blankets to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief request for help. Tens of thousands are still without power and also homeless. Another significant Nor Easter gale with heavy rain and snow is coming mid-week adding concerns to everyone.
There is displaced anger erupting from frustrated people. Power-line workers have been pelted with eggs in Bridgeport, Ct. by some who feel they are waiting too long for electricity. Having only been without power for four days, we didn't experience such frustration, however, the line workers are not the people to be angry with. personally, I think the utilities and emergency responders have been brilliant. The organization and efficiency with which they have gone about restoring power and clearing huge problems with infrastructure has been extremely impressive. There is a long way to go, but hold in there, everyone is doing their best. There has been outpouring of compassion and help for those in trouble and a pleasant nature between people in general. I wonder why we cant be like this all the time. Colin Andrews - Nov 4, 2012

9 Days After Superstorm 'Sandy' Comes Winter Storm 'Athena' - Same Area Hit Again

A Nor'Easter storm deepened on the 7th November and came up the coast to hit the same areas of the north east of the United States that were effected by Sandy. Winter storm Athena was wild throughout the night of November 7-8th, 2012. In Nth Guilford, Connecticut we had a 6 - 8" snow fall with drifts of several feet and an additional 691,000 homes lost power. We lost another tree, actually half of the tallest tree on the property. The 90-100 footer would have crashed into the horse ring had the direction varied another 25 degrees. Shown center of spread above.
Exceptional signs of a planet in change, 'Climate Change'. Raising questions like, what next and how far will it go? Are we prepared for the extremes which might appear sooner than we had anticipated?
